In Sep. 2022 me and a college started our 15-day travel through Europe, striving to meet people from different cultures and getting to know some of the major cities in Europe.
One month earlier we began planning the journey, opting to utilize the ‘Eurorail’ ticket, which would let us travel with the regional transport on selected days though a 15-day period. We agreed on staying 2 days per city, traveling on the first day and relaxing on the second.
The journey was planned as follows:
- We start at the eastern border of France: Strasbourg. I had already visited this city earlier in my life and couldn’t resist re-visiting for the lovely historic center and the ‘Alsace Tarte Flambée’.
- Second we visit the well-known swiss city of Bern. I hadn’t known much about this city prior and was interested in finding out more about Albert Einstein and the swiss culture.
- Milan, the centre of fashion. Besides it being the second-most populous city of Italy, we knew it contained a very influential painting: The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci.
- We leave Italy behind us by moving to the highlight of our journey: Nice – or rather Monaco Monte Carlo and its formula one racing track. We both enjoy the racing sport and I personally know this track very well and loved the idea of seeing it in person.
- As part of the previous stop, we would allow us an additional day to stay in Nice, where we also slept overnight. Since Nice lies at the Côte d’Azur and we both wanted to enjoy a relaxing day at the beach, this was a great opportunity to do so.
- As the second to last stop we planned to visit Marseilles. This was mostly because all major train routes pass through Marseilles anyways.
- At last we arrive at Lyon. This is one of the major cities in France and i knew some details about it, making it desirable to visit.
- (cancelled) We originally planned on visiting the capital of France – Paris – but decided against it during the trip.
In the following blog posts I will portray my experiences during this trip.
